An Invitation
Interested individuals are invited to present papers, readings, films, at the Fiji Literary Festival – the first Literary Festival organized by the Fijian Writers Association, FWA. Conversations, interviews and panel discussions with writers and artistes on a variety of subjects in Cultural Arts will also feature prominently.
The sub themes include writing, diasporic narratives, identity, teaching literature, women’s writing, exile, migration, public intellectuals, writing Fiji in the Asia–Pacific, translation or transcreation, ethics of reading and writing in a multicultural society, making films, publishing, printing, the media, research, creative industries, communication, copyright…
Registration Fee Overseas participants: US$250.00
Fiji participants: FJD$250.00 (FWA Members: FJD$200.00)
─ Includes morning and afternoon tea, lunch, special dinners and travel to special festival venues.

Abstracts Please send abstracts for papers (200 words) and your biodata (50 words) by 20 August 2011. Include a photo for the Festival booklet. Except for keynote & plenary papers, time allocated for presentation will be 30 minutes for individual presenters.

Accommodation Trans International Hotel and Novotel Hotel have been booked at a special rate. Five minutes from Nadi International Airport, these hotels will be our main venue for the events and presentations. Details of other hotels are given below.
Travel Participants attending the Festival are requested to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Arrangements can be made with Air Pacific–Qantas & Argo Travels, Nadi. Please see their websites for details.

Book Fair FWA is also initiating a Book Fair in Nadi. Writers, publishers, booksellers and book lovers are warmly invited to exhibit and sell their published books. The book fair will be at FNU Nadi. Other Venues
Major events to be held at Trans International Hotel and Novotel Hotel Nadi. Readers and writers may also be invited to Fiji National University (Nadi & Lautoka Campuses), UniFiji, (Saweni Campus), & USP, (Lautoka Campus) and some colleges in Nadi and Lautoka.
October Weather-October is a pleasant month to spend a fortnight in Fiji – a week at the Festival and another to recover at an island resort. Temperatures vary between 28 and 33. It’s also the beginning of the Fiji Mango season and cane harvesting! An umbrella may be handy.
Clothing: Informal, casual & artistic! Colourful Bula shirts and elegantly designed sulus are available in Nadi Town and shops in hotels.
Currency & Bank Card
Fiji has a sophisticated banking system – most international cards are acceptable.
A Fiji Dollar is around 50 cents US.

Airport taxis available at very reasonable rates.
